Graduates in Ministry
Our graduates enter into many different fields of ministry - both in the local church, para-churches, and even into Missions. In early 2007 we contacted all past students (well those who answered there phones) and of all the students who have graduated 83% are in or have been in ministry positions and 41% are in or have been in paid ministry positions. This is exciting for the college and for the kingdom of God - knowing that were making a difference. Here are some words form two of our graduates in full time ministry.
Bec Smith - Youth Pastor at Perth CLC
I think back 7 years and I am blown away as to what God has done in my life. In the year 2000, just before my 17th birthday, God totally transformed me. Being brought up in a Christian home I knew all the 'stuff' about church life, but it wasn't until that year the 'stuff' became real to me. For the first time I had a very certain sense of God's purpose for my life. So after finishing year 12 it was off to College for me. I loved my years at College. With little to no sleep, lots of café lattes, lots of concealer (to hide the bags) and of course some of the most incredible people I have ever known, my experience at College both refined and defined me for the years that followed. I know that I would not be the woman of God that I am today if I had not spent the 3 ½ years of preparation. Throughout that time I served wholeheartedly at my church, Perth CLC, in the Youth, the Children's, the Creative and any other facet of Church life I could.
Today I am loving where God has me positioned. I have the BEST job in the world. I get to serve in a full-time capacity at my Church PCLC as our youth pastor. I am ever grateful for the opportunities I get to be part of, for the people I do life with and for those whose paths I cross every day where a God exchange is made to transform and extend life.
I feel strongly challenged to make God's name and His House "exceedingly magnificent, famous and glorious throughout all lands" (1 Chron 22:5 NASB). I am not interested in making any kind of personal stamp on this earth, just the God kind that extends the Kingdom making a way for the generations to come.
Two of my life verses which always remind me to break off all limitations and believe for more are...
"The Spirit of the LORD will come upon you in power, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person. Once these signs are fulfilled, do whatever your hand finds to do, for God is with you." 1 Sam 10:6-7
"...I can't tell you how much I long for you to enter this wide-open, spacious life. We didn't fence you in. The smallness you feel comes from within you. Your lives aren't small, but you're living them in a small way. I'm speaking as plainly as I can and with great affection. Open up your lives. Live openly and expansively!" (2 Cor 6:11-13 MSG)
So I am devoting the rest of my life to exploring the expansiveness of God!
Phil Scrimgeour - Associate Pastor at Cornerstone Church
I attended Southern Cross Bible College (which became HarvestWest in 2000) from 1997-99 graduating with an Advanced Diploma in Ministry. My time at SCBC saw me grow from a young Christian to a young Christian leader as God worked deep in my heart and also instructed me from his word. In March of 2000 I hit the skies for Africa, bound on a mission to work with Youth in a mining town in Botswana. I ended up spending three years in Botswana working under a missionary/pastor from NZ. My time in Botswana was very positive, although missing much of the the conveniences of Oz, I loved the fragrance of Africa.
After returning to Perth from Botswana in August 2003, I settled down to a regular job through most of 2004. A conversation with a friend late in 04 challenged me to return to College (HarvestWest) for a year to obtain my Bachalor of Arts in Ministry. In 2005 at the age of 27 again I found myself a bible student and had an challenging year which I thoroughly enjoyed at HarvestWest. I spent 2006 working as a Manager in a retail chain which left me wondering was there more for this aspiring preacher. In November 06 while considering the Police Force, Ps Peter Hack of Cornerstone Church conntacted me about a position as an Associate Pastor which I took up in Feb this year. I'm really loving the job, and all my years of study are coming to use preaching to an adult congregation every fortnight.
